Frequently asked questions
How is UPSC Prelims GS Paper-I marked?
Each correct answer earns 2 marks. For every wrong answer, 1/3rd of the allotted marks (0.67) is deducted as a penalty. Questions left unattempted have no negative marking.
What is a good Prelims GS Paper-I score?
It depends entirely on the paper's difficulty and the year's cutoff, which both vary. Use the Cutoff Predictor to compare your estimated score against a cutoff figure you enter.
Does CSAT (Paper-II) count toward my Prelims score?
No — CSAT is only qualifying (you need 33% to clear it). Only your GS Paper-I score is used to rank you for the Prelims cutoff. Use the CSAT Score Calculator separately to check if you've cleared Paper-II.
